50 Cent-He’s been shot nine times. Incarcerated. And stabbed up and down. And that’s only what’s happened on 50 Cent’s down time. – is coming to South Korea to perform before local fans.
His Mar.1 concert, to be held at Olympic Hall in Olympic Park in Seoul, will feature the 30-year-old rapper performing numbers from his 2003 hotshot debut album “Get Rich or Die Tryin”’ and 2005’s “The Massacre.”
As a multi-million album selling artist and one of the most popular names on the hiphop scene today will make 50 Cent the biggest name in hiphop to perform here yet.
A Queens, New York-native, 50 Cent was orphaned at the age of 8 when his drug trafficking mother was shot to death. His father having run out early on, he was left in the hands of a grandmother.
As a teenager 50 Cent followed the lead of his mother and involved himself in crack trade. Having made a career choice that would land him in prison several times, around the mid 1990s he started to steer away from crime and towards rap.
In 2000, just before the release of “Power of the Dollar” under Columbia, 50 experienced a near fatal incident of being shot nine times, leading to Columbia’s dropping of the “now controversial” rapper.
After a few years of running the underground circuit again 50 Cent signed a joint deal with Eminem’s Shady and Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label. And in 2003, 50 Cent put out his debut recording. Featuring hits like “P.I.M.P.” and “21 Questions” the album went multi-platinum. Last year saw the release of his much-anticipated second album, “The Massacre,” which offers more rapping of his past experiences like drugs, imprisonments and shooting.
50 Cent has also branched off into other ventures like his own clothing line, G-Unit and the launching of his own energy drink Formula 50 Vitamin Water. Last year the rapper also made his feature film debut in “Get Rich Or Die Tryin’,” which he stars in a role based on his own life story.
